The situation has reached a breaking point, with residents describing their living conditions as 'hell' and a 'health hazard'.
The root of the problem lies in a burst pipe that has left the complex with little to no water pressure for over a month. The state government has acknowledged the issue, dispatching department staff and contractors to resolve the water pressure problem earlier this week and again on Saturday afternoon. However, the situation remains dire, with residents expressing their frustration and desperation.
Ian Fegan, a resident, told 9News, 'Living like hell... everyone’s starting to smell and all that.' Laurence Mather, another resident, added, 'My toilet is starting to fill up now because I can’t flush the toilet. I can’t have a shower, there’s absolutely no water supply now.'
The complex is scheduled for demolition within the next year as part of a redevelopment plan for the Beaconsfield area. However, residents are demanding emergency accommodation and are questioning the government's response and responsibility. Mather stated, 'If they can’t make things happen, and they’re leaving their tenants in animal-like conditions, then they must have some legal obligation to relocate people.'
