Sportsology Capital Partners Makes Major Move: Acquires Minority Stake in Texas Rangers
Sportsology Capital Partners (SCP) is making waves in the world of sports investment. On February 11, 2026, the firm announced its acquisition of a minority stake in the Texas Rangers, marking its first investment in a U.S.-based professional team. While financial details remain confidential, this move signifies SCP's growing influence in the sports investment landscape.
Founded by John Carroll and Mike Forde, SCP launched in 2023, building upon Forde's extensive experience in sports management and Carroll's financial expertise. Forde's previous role as Director of Football Operations for Chelsea FC and Carroll's background in investment firms like Willowridge Partners and Central Park Group position them as seasoned professionals in their field.
According to Carroll, SCP aims to differentiate itself from larger institutional team investors by focusing on a select number of high-quality deals. In the case of the Texas Rangers, SCP highlighted the team's state-of-the-art ballpark, top-tier market presence, and proven leadership team as key factors in their decision.
"We're seeking a sweet spot in fund size that allows us to make significant deals for teams and owners without venturing into the mega-cap world," Carroll explained. "Our strategy revolves around positioning the fund around a carefully curated subset of assets."
Interestingly, SCP's interest in the Rangers dates back to 2023, when they were reportedly considering a minority stake alongside Ares Management. However, Carroll clarified that their recent investment is independent of those initial discussions, with Ares not being involved in the current deal. SCP and Ares have previously collaborated on investments, notably in the French team of SailGP.
As SCP continues to expand its portfolio, the sports investment community eagerly anticipates the impact of this strategic move, particularly in the context of SCP's unique approach to team investments.
